Mayo starts at third as Urías lands on IL
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Julio Urías has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left calf contusion, the team announced Monday.
The injury occurred during Urías’ start against the San Diego Padres on Sunday. The left-hander was hit by a line drive off the bat of Padres shortstop Ha-seong Kim in the second inning. Urías was able to finish the inning, but he was removed from the game after the third inning.
With Urías on the IL, the Dodgers have recalled right-hander Michael Grove from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Grove will start Tuesday’s game against the Padres.
Urías is 3-6 with a 3.86 ERA in 13 starts this season. He has struck out 73 batters and walked 23 in 72 1/3 innings.
The Dodgers are hopeful that Urías will only miss one start. However, the team will be cautious with their ace left-hander, who is a key part of their rotation.
